Privacy Policy

AYON Wind ("the app") is operated by AYON ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data the app collects, why, and the choices you have. Contact for anything privacy-related: contact@withayon.com.

Data we collect and why

• Account information — email address and a user identifier, used to create and secure your account and sync your profile across devices.
• Rider profile — name, optional photo, self-declared role, skill level, weight, board type, gear, base spot, and language. Used to personalize kite-size recommendations and your community identity. Stored in your cloud profile so it survives reinstalling the app.
• Precise location (GPS) — used to show your position on the map, surface nearby spots, and record your downwind sessions (distance, duration, speed, track). Location is requested only when you use these features. If you grant background access and start a session, tracking continues with the screen locked — iOS shows the system location indicator the whole time, and tracking stops when you finish the ride.
• Session history and lifetime statistics — your recorded rides and totals, tied to your account so they are never lost.
• Photos — only if you choose one for your profile; we never scan your library.
• Push notification token — if you enable notifications or wind alerts, a delivery token and your device platform are stored with your profile (and on the wind alerts you create) solely to deliver the notifications you asked for; deleted with your account.
• Purchase state — whether you have an active AYON Wind Pro subscription, processed via Apple and RevenueCat. We never see or store your payment details.
• App usage and diagnostics — we use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand which screens and features are used, and to record app errors (an error message and a short stack trace) so we can fix crashes. This is not used for advertising and is not linked to an advertising identifier. We also keep a log of these feature events linked to your account so we can debug issues you report; it contains no location trails or free text, and it is deleted with your account.
• Linked AYON account — AYON Wind and AYON KiteSchool share a sign-in. When you create your account (or first sign in on a new device), your sign-in credentials are used once to create or link the matching account in the AYON KiteSchool system so your Rider Passport works across both; routine sign-ins after that reuse the existing link and never re-send your password. Your email, display name, and passport ride summaries (route name, distance, duration, start/end points) sync between the two AYON systems.

Live sharing — always your choice

• Live Presence is opt-in and spot-level only: other riders see that you are at a spot and, if you choose, your kite size — never your exact coordinates. It fades out automatically within 15 minutes of closing the app.
• Guided Session Share creates a time-limited link, at your request only, showing your live position to whoever holds the link (e.g. your transfer driver or a safety contact). You choose the duration, you can stop it at any time, and the link expires on its own. Anyone with the link can view it — share it only with people you trust.
• Local Knowledge notes you submit (with your rider name and photo) are public to other riders by design.

What we do NOT do

• No advertising SDKs, no tracking across other companies' apps or websites, no sale of personal data.
• No background location without your explicit opt-in — either an active ride you started, or Nearby Wind Alerts if you turn them on (spot-entry checks that run on your device; your background position is never uploaded by that feature).
• No reading of your contacts, messages, or photo library.

Service providers and third parties

We use Google Firebase (authentication, database, analytics, hosting — data may be processed in the United States), RevenueCat (subscription management), Apple (App Store payments), and Expo (push notifications). Each processes data only to provide their service to us.

To draw maps and produce forecasts, coordinates are sent to third-party services that operate under their own privacy policies rather than as our processors: Mapbox (maps), Open-Meteo (wind and weather forecasts), and OpenStreetMap / Nominatim (place names for a location you pick). These requests contain a location, not your name or account.

Retention and your rights

Your data is kept while your account exists. You can delete your account and its data at any time from Passport → Settings → Delete my account, which immediately removes your profile, recorded rides, wind alerts, posts and profile photo. You can also email contact@withayon.com and we will delete it within 30 days. Deleting your AYON Wind account does not automatically remove a separate AYON KiteSchool account — email us and we will remove that too. You may also request a copy of your data. If you are in the EU/EEA, Brazil (LGPD), or California (CCPA), these rights are yours by law; we honor them for everyone regardless of location.

Children

AYON Wind is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, we will update this page and the "last updated" date above.
